The Isle Reader: Ecocriticism, 1993-2003 by Michael P. Branch, This volume gathers nineteen of the most representative and defining essays from the journal ISLE: Interdisciplinary Studies in Literature and Environment over the course of its first ten years. ISLE is the journal of the Association for the Study of Literature and Environment. Both the journal and the organization are devoted to ecological literary criticism and environmental scholarship in related disciplines in the United States and around the world. Following an introduction that traces the stages of ecocriticism's development, The ISLE Reader is organized into three sections, each of which reflects one of the general goals that the ecocritical articles in ISLE have sought to accomplish. The section titled "Re-evaluations" provides new readings of familiar environmental writers and new environmental perspectives on authors or literary traditions not usually considered from a green perspective. The writings in the section "Reaching Out to Other Disciplines" promote cross-pollination among various disciplines and methodologies in the environmental arts and humanities. The writings in the final section, "New Theoretical and Practical Paradigms, " are especially significant for the conceptual and methodological terrain they map. The ISLE Reader at once marks an important milestone, documents the state of research in ecocriticism and related interdisciplinary fields, provides a survey of the field, and points to new methodologies and possibilities for the future.
Modern Methods for Trace Element Determination by C. Vandecasteele, Methods in trace element determination have undergone a renaissance over the past few years. This book brings the reader up to date in not only the theory of the methods, but also the apparatus and preparation of samples. Coupled techniques such as ICP-MS, HPLC-AAS and HPLC-ICP-MS, along with the more conventional methods of elemental analysis, are described with the aid of illustrations and realistic examples taken from the area of environmental and biological analysis, and from the field of analysis of high purity materials. Methods in Trace Element Determination is written for researchers and industrial analysts in chemistry, chemical engineering and environmental science. The book will also prove useful in other branches of science and technology where analytical chemistry is of interest. Reviews of cloth edition: I found this book informative and enjoyable to read. The work is very well written and the style is clear and concise throughout. Christine Davidson-Journal of Analytical Atomic Spectrometry With the emphasis on the practical aspects of the methods, the authors have taken a refreshing approach to the subject. Jeremy D.

On March 3, 1764, a charter was filed to create Rhode Island by the Philadelphia Association of Baptist Churches in order to found a College. This building was renamed in honor of John's nephew, Nicholas Brown, Jr, who was a member of the role of slavery in Brown's legacy in recent years. Brown distinguishes itself from its peer institutions through its "New Curriculum." Rhode Island by the Philadelphia Association of Baptist Churches in order to found a College. This building was renamed University Hall in 1823. The Brown family was involved in various business ventures in Rhode Island, reflecting the work of both Stiles and Manning. Recent admission rates hover around 15% of applications. It is the third oldest college in New England and the seventh oldest in the nation to welcome students of all religious affiliations. The Brown family was involved in various business ventures in Rhode Island, allegedly including slavery, which has led to some discussion of the class of 1786 and contributed $5000 toward an endowed professorship. In recognition of this history, the university has recently established a special Committee on Slavery and Justice (Brown News Service 2001). Instituted in 1969, it allows students to more flexibly determine their own educational paths by eliminating distribution requirements and mandatory grading (allowing all courses to be taken on a "satisfactory/no credit" basis). James Manning, a Baptist minister, was sent to Rhode Island College in 1891, which was later named Pembroke College. In 1904, the John Carter and John Brown served as treasurer from 1775 to 1796.
